Golden Descent

When’s the last time you looked at the sunset?

When’s the last time you paused and realized how beautiful it was?

We are given an incredible gift every day… a unique sunrise, and sunset. You will see neither ever again.

It was unique to your area, your skies, your cloud conditions. As a Christian, I see a sunset or sunrise and am amazed that God could hand-craft each one to be unique. He is much more the artist than I could ever be.

Stop, look, appreciate… this opportunity will never come to you again.

Sunrise at Clear Lake Park

A park near where I live in Texas. I was shooting from a dock towards this outcropping of rocks. This was a foggy morning, and the water was so serene that you couldn’t tell where the water ended and the sky began. I’m so happy that duck started swimming, its trail added a wonderful effect to the picture. Also, this had no filters. This is what the morning actually looked like, a beautiful morning here in Houston.

Sunrise at State College Airport

I know this isn’t the type of picture I normally take. But I miss airplanes today, and I miss Pennsylvania, so it fits. Took this at the State College airport, when I was there as a student doing a flight testing course. We got there bright and early to receive instructions from our teacher, who was a retired Navy flight instructor. I remember seeing this plane and getting all excited, so I snapped some shots of it as the sun rose… and then later I found out that this was not our plane! Still don’t know whose it was, haha. And I was bummed because the sun had risen by the time we got to our plane, so I couldn’t replicate this picture with our aircraft. But that’s alright, I still got a pretty picture and still got to fly!

Foggy Sunrise

IMG_9850.wmThis was sunrise a couple weeks ago at Clear Lake Park, in a suburb of Houston. No filters, just my kit lens and tripod. The morning was foggy, and the water was still as glass. My eye could not discern where the water ended and the sky began. The sun started to rise, and some gulls landed on the outcropping of rocks, occasionally flying around for a different perch or swooping past me noiselessly. It was a beautiful, serene morning, muted by the gray fog, illuminated solely by the orange glow of the sun. Part of me wishes such a moment could last forever…
